Energy and Enthusiasm by All

Dangriga is a great place to be!

Our day started with Miss Grace (our Rotarian host) having announcements about our presence and purpose made on the Belize television station and the local radio station. We are mini celebrities (grin). Everyone here is so grateful for our presence. The focus of the sessions today was literacy. The day was filled with highly engaging activities and the teachers and administrators were very involved in all activities and discussions. During one of the breaks, I was asking about one of the trees in the schoolyard. The principal told me it is an almond tree. Can you believe it? It even had ripe almonds on it. He thinks I should take some seeds back and plant one in Red Deer. I might try it-- maybe a house plant?? We have spent lots of time in the evenings planning and it was been worth it. We wrapped up the sessions with three stars and a wish and it was wonderful to read the comments. Some comments were:

-"The appointments were an awesome strategy. I was able to interact with others and share ideas".
-"I absolutely loved the activities with the word wall. My word wall will be coming 'alive' using the activities and the handout."

-"The carousal activity with the 12 tenants was wonderful. The activity can be very effective in the classroom because children will be teaching each other."

- "There was great interaction and sharing of ideas."

Some of the wishes included:

-"Keep the workshops ALIVE. Come again"

-"I wish these ideas would be developed and implemented by all the teachers in Belize".

Reading the comments at the end of the day was a great way to wrap up the day. The teachers and administrators in Belize are very appreciative.
Our local Rotary group continue to be amazing hosts. We have been experiencing many traditional meals. We are learning a lot about the culture here. Marie is like our personal chef arriving to cook us meals and deliver our lunches. Miss Grace and Mr. Godfrey Young act as our personal drivers. Judith helps with cooking and makes sure we are taken care of with Miss Grace. We will be attending the Rotary meeting tomorrow night and will get to thank all the rotarians here that have been working together to make us feel very welcome. The days are flying by!!!
